The Usage of the Plastic Bags
Introduction
Nowadays, plastic is commonly used in our
society. We can find so much plastic bags in our daily life. At home, school,
beach, and in the river there are always plastic bags. Moreover, the plastic bags are freely got from
the supermarket.
The plastic bags can persist up to 1000 years
without being decomposed. The plastic bag wastes cause serious pollution and
health problems. The huge of the plastic bags also raise many problems. According
to a World Wildlife Fund Report in 2005, nearly 200 different species of sea
life including whales, dolphins, seals, and turtles die because of plastic
bags. Moreover, plastics also cause flood
and many health problems like cancer, liver dysfunction, etc.
This survey is conducted to find out the usage
of the plastic bag in society.
Method
The research was done by online questionnaire
to collect data from random respondents. Thirty people were asked to complete
the survey on May, 5-8th 2016, with 46.7% male and 53.3% female and
most of them are teenagers (83.3%).
Findings
The result indicated that all of the
respondents can differentiate an organic and non-organic trash. Most of the respondents (86.7%) claimed that
using plastic bags in daily life can raise many problems. 40% respondents have
known the danger of the plastic bags from internet. Although most of the
respondents have already known about the danger of the plastic bags, the using
of the plastic bags still overloads. It proved that 60% respondents claimed
that there are some plastic bags around them.
Most of the respondents (93.3%) used 1-5
plastic bags a day. Easy to use was the main reason for the respondents in using
these products (56.7%). Over 63.3% respondents used plastic bags once a while for
shopping. Most of the respondents realized the importance of reducing the use
of plastic bags. It proved that 76.7% respondents have used the reuse plastic
bags when they went shopping. Most of the respondents (73.3%) had no problem in
throwing away the plastic garbage.
Actually, there are some ways to reduce the
use of the plastic bags. One of them was by using reusable bag. Unfortunately,
people seldom used reusable bag. 43.4% respondents just use reusable bag once a
while when they went shopping. Most of them (40%) claimed that the difficulty of
bringing reusable bag is because they forget to bring their reusable bag.
40% respondents judged that the government had
good contribution in managing the huge of the plastic garbage. Recently, the government
makes a wise rule for the people who go shopping in the supermarket. It is a
must for the customers to buy the plastic bags. Over 80% respondents agree with
this rule. However 50% respondents claimed that buying plastic bag was effective
to reduce the plastic garbage.
It seems that the people begin to realize to
reduce the usage of the plastic bags. All of the respondents have a plan to
reduce the usage of plastic bags in their daily. Furthermore, over 93.3%
respondents agreed if the government banned the usage of the plastic bags
Conclusion
From this survey we can conclude that the
entire respondents often use plastic bag. Most of the respondents still use
plastic bags although they know about the disadvantages of using plastic bags.
The average of the respondents use 1-5 plastic bags a day. Only few people in
our daily life use reusable bag. However, most of the respondents begin to
realize in reducing the usage of the plastic bags.
